The 53rd Welsh section annual weekend rally took place on April 21st to 24th. This year’s rally found the Welsh section in North Wales at the Waterloo Hotel situated in the stunning village of Betws-y-Coed, which is also known as the gateway to Snowdonia.

People travelled from far and wide to enjoy the weekend – enthusiasts from Northumberland, Windermere, Kent, Somerset, and Devon to name but a few, plus of course many of the Welsh section members.

There was a vast array of, Rolls Royce and Bentleys dating from the 1920s to the present day. Some guests opted to make the journey in their everyday cars and as always everyone is welcome. The driving force is an admiration of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars.

The weather, a national obsession in the UK was on their side, and day one saw the group take a picturesque route to the spectacular Bodnant Gardens. Upon arrival, the venue marshals had set aside the coach park just for the group’s cars. A great line-up of Rolls-Royce and Bentleys was to be seen and much admired by the public.

On day two they traversed the Llanberis Pass which was full of fantastic scenery and some heart-stopping views!  Then it was on to the National Slate Museum to learn about the history of an industry that once ‘roofed the world’ The group was also treated to a demo of slate cutting. Then onto a relaxing trip on the Llanberis lakeside railway.

On Friday we had an entertaining and informative talk about the Wright Flyer by James Cowell and had the opportunity to admire his amazing model.

Saturday saw us dressed up in our finery for the Gala dinner. The whole weekend was one of enjoyment, good company, and a shared love of the cars, reigniting old friendships and making new, and even dogs were welcome!

The Welsh Section is looking forward to 2024 – provisionally at the Ivy Bush in Carmarthen and as always everyone is welcome.
