The Official Launch of the Flying Spares Employee Ownership Trust

In February 2020, Ben and Lucy Handford announced that after trading for 25 years, Flying Spares was to become an Employee Owned company. In selling 100% of their shares in the business to a newly formed Employee Owned Trust, Ben and Lucy’s key objective was to ensure the continued success of Flying Spares and to provide job security for their fifty employees.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the official Employee Ownership launch was put on hold until a point where it was felt that these group meetings could be held safely.

On Wednesday 28th & Thursday 29th April 2021, Ben and Lucy were finally able to hold a number of socially distanced launch meetings for groups of around twelve colleagues. During these meetings, they outlined exactly what it means to be Employee Owned and the changes and benefits that employees can expect to see in the future. Each employee also received an A4 presentation pack containing all the key information from these meetings.

One of the key changes outlined by Ben and Lucy was the introduction of an Employee Council who will represent all colleagues and report regularly to the board of Directors. All those interested in becoming an Employee Representative were invited to submit a mini-manifesto, before voting takes place next month to appoint the five successful candidates.
