Question: I want to remove the rear suspension and front suspension for renovation. My car is a 1976 Silver Shadow.
Do you have a method to do that job?
It's a problem for me to find out where we may lift up the car outside the two jack position without damaging the body.
I am busy in my garage and i don't have too much special tools. Thanks a lot for your feedback

Answer: First of all I would recommend that you look at the workshop manual - we do one on CD or USB Stick (TSD2476) as this will give you all the information you require.
To remove the front subframe is fairly straightforward - disconnect all pipes and linkages, support the engine and then drop the front subframe as a complete assembly by undoing the 4 bolts in each corner.
You will need to take care to release the front shock absorbers and springs and to ensure all electrical wiring and hydraulic pipework have been successfully disconnected.
The rear subframe and trailing arms also can be removed as a complete assembly but you will need to split the rear shock absorbers from the rear height control rams.
Please let me know if you need any further specific information but in the meantime I strongly recommend you look at the workshop manual.

Question: Thanks for that information. I already have this CD but it doesn't appear to me so understandable where (with precision) to jack up the car without damaging the body.
Even for the rear and front suspension it's not step by step explained how to proceed. Thanks for your response

Answer: I have found the details on pages 258 and 259 within Chapter H. Are these not sufficient?

Question: Indeed, we can see on those pictures how to remove the motor +gear+front suspension.

What about only the front suspension assy??
Where do they place the jack to place the wooden cradles below the rear wheels??
Where is it explained how to remove the rear suspension.
I have an original CD from Bentley, but i don't find this information.
I am sorry if i insist, but the previous owner has damaged the body car

Thanks a lot

Answer: To remove the rear suspension we jack the car up using a long arm 3tonne jack on the differential and put the axle stands under the main rear subframe.
Page H33 of the workshop manual details how to remove the rear subframe and trailing arms as one assembly.
Again please let me know if you need any more information.

Question: May the car be supported at the inner rockers just forward of the rear wheels, with correctly shaped wood blocks and jack stands, then the rear suspension supported by jacks, disconnected and lowered away from the body?

Answer: As regards Jacking the car up it is always to suggested to jack it up on the diff.
