In this tech guide, we’re looking at a filter, plugs, and an oil change on an early Silver Seraph, built in 1998.

Rolls-Royce unveiled the Silver Seraph to great fanfare at the 1998 Geneva Motor Show, as an eagerly awaited replacement for the Silver Spirit. It was developed while the company was still with Bentley, under Vickers, and shares a platform with the Arnage. An important difference, though, is the engine, with the Silver Seraph being powered by BMW’s naturally aspirated M73, making it the first V12-engined Rolls-Royce since the Phantom III of the 1930s. That alone makes it almost a must-have for serious collectors.

Another boost in terms of desirability comes from the fact that it was only in production for a few short years. The Silver Seraph was discontinued in 2002 after only 1676 examples had been made – nearly all four-door saloons, with some rare longer wheelbase versions.

In this guide, we’ll look at a few quite simple servicing jobs, starting with spark plugs, the air filter, an oil filter, and an engine oil change, a pollen filter, and finishing with the fuel filter. While all reasonably straightforward, these jobs are not to be neglected. Regular maintenance is the single best way to keep your Seraph wafting along in refined luxury. Like the Arnage, they can also be prone to corrosion, so ideally keep them garaged and take particular care of the underside.

As always, the usual caveats apply. Please note that these articles are intended as general guidance only. For model-specific instructions, please refer to your owner’s manual.

Finally, and I can’t emphasise this enough, safety is paramount. Please use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and dispose of waste products responsibly.
