Flying Spares test and development cars

We are dedicated to sourcing and supplying only the very best parts to keep your cars on the road. To ensure durability and reliability of these components, we have three test and development cars to which parts can be fitted to undergo testing in the real world before being available to purchase. This also allows us to carry out ongoing investigations of any other parts related issues which may occur.

With 152 parts currently on test across the three models, they form an important part of our quality process. The cars are available to drive by all members of staff and are regularly used for commuting to and from Flying Spares.

1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow

Looking resplendent with its Olive green paintwork and beige interior, this Silver Shadow is affectionally named ‘Dave’ after fellow RRBSA member Dave Terry, who lived and worked in Holland. Dave sadly died in 2017.

Dave was a perfectionist and would always look to offer a solution or an improvement whenever faced with a technical or parts related problem. For more than 10 years we worked together on numerous projects with the resultant parts now manufactured and in stock.
Sourced in Holland, it was only a matter of time before our workshop team considered it fitting to name the car in Dave’s honour.

Our longest running test car, it has had a multitude of parts function fitted and extensively tested, resulting in many aftermarket and reconditioned parts being approved for sale.

1990 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit II

Supplied new in 1990 by HR Owen Ecurie Cheltenham and specified with Acrylic Cobalt coachwork and Tahiti blue hide, the seat centres were also trimmed in Scarab Opera Velvet, a rarely seen combination. This particular example has been well cared for throughout its lifetime with the addition of digital gauges and a neat, tidy reverse camera.

As it is fuel injected, it was an ideal opportunity for us to utilise it as a moving test bed for parts not suitable for the carburettor fed Silver Shadow. With an extensive list of development parts ready for fitting, this Spirit gives us the much needed ‘real world’ experience that components need before going on sale.

2003 Bentley Continental GT

Supplied by Jack Barclay with a cypress green exterior and Saffron leather combination, this 2003 GT belies its 19 year age.

With an ever increasing selection of aftermarket and reconditioned parts for these models now becoming available, our development GT has been instrumental in the release of some of our products, including the aftermarket anti-roll bar links, suspension arms and trim clips that we now supply.
