There are some dates in the calendar that quietly become fixtures. Not because they're obligatory, but because they're the sort of events you look forward to long before they arrive.

For us, the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts' Club Annual Rally is one of them.

This year's gathering at Kelmarsh Hall was no exception. Four days surrounded by some of the finest Rolls-Royces and Bentleys in the world, thousands of conversations about everything from coachbuilders to coolant, and enough enthusiasm to remind us exactly why we do what we do.

First, a sincere thank you to everyone at the RREC for inviting us along. Events like this don't simply happen by accident. They take an enormous amount of organisation, and it shows.

Of course, anyone who was there will probably remember one thing before anything else. The heat.

For the first three days, the Flying Spares team became experts at locating the nearest patch of shade. Every conversation seemed to begin with, "Have you found anywhere cooler yet?" before inevitably drifting back to cars. By Sunday, the temperature had finally shown a little mercy, arriving just in time for the judging and awards. Quite considerate, really.

One of the best parts of the rally, though, has very little to do with the cars themselves. It's putting faces to names.

Throughout the year we spend countless hours speaking to customers on the phone, replying to emails and helping identify obscure parts from grainy photographs. At Kelmarsh, many of those conversations suddenly became handshakes.

It was wonderful to catch up with familiar faces, meet old friends, and introduce us to new members of the Club from around the world. Every conversation reminded us that this isn't simply a collection of owners. It's a community, connected by a shared determination to keep these remarkable cars on the road. And what a collection of cars it was.

From some of the earliest Rolls-Royces ever built through to modern Bentleys, the variety on display was extraordinary, each one with its own story and each lovingly cared for. But the rally is about far more than the cars on display.

Technical seminars kept enthusiasts engaged, the pre-war driving experience offered a rare chance to see some of the earliest cars in action, and the members' spares area proved, as always, to be a treasure trove for anyone hunting that elusive component. Between the trade stands, club marquee and countless conversations taking place across the field, there was never much chance to stand still.

Sunday, of course, brought the concours judging and awards. By then, the temperatures had finally become a little kinder, allowing owners to put the finishing touches to their cars before the judges began their meticulous inspections.

Our own stand stayed pleasantly busy throughout the rally. Fortunately, we'd packed plenty of coolant, which proved rather useful as temperatures climbed. By Sunday, detailer and tyre dressing had quietly disappeared from the shelves as owners prepared their cars for judging.

One customer, however, needed something a little less predictable: a replacement steering wheel. Rather than promising to sort it after the rally, one of our team headed back to Merry Lees, removed the correct wheel from one of our donor cars, drove straight back to Kelmarsh, and fitted it there and then in the middle of the show field. Not a bad day's work.

We also brought along two cars of our own, our Bentley Continental GT and our Bentley Arnage. The GT found its next owner during the rally, which was lovely to see. The Arnage, meanwhile, is still waiting patiently for the right person. If you happened to admire it over the weekend, it's still available.

As we packed everything away on Sunday afternoon, one thought kept coming back.

We spend most of our time surrounded by shelves of parts, workshop benches and warehouse aisles. Events like the Annual Rally remind us of what happens next. Those parts become family holidays, wedding cars, Sunday morning drives, concours winners and lifelong memories.

Seeing that in person and seeing just how passionate this community continues to be, is something we're incredibly grateful to be part of.

Finally, congratulations to all of this year's award winners. The standard of preparation on display was remarkable, and with so many exceptional cars present, the judges certainly didn't have an easy job.

So, thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat, shared a story, admired the cars, or simply came over to introduce yourselves.

We'll happily take four days of sunburn if it means another weekend like this.
