Just Arrived
Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II - FSD 800
Chassis: SRH32901
Fresh off the trailer — and then politely persuaded off with the help of a forklift and three slightly out-of-breath team members — comes our 800th arrival: a 1978 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II, finished (of course) in that timeless classic, wedding white.
Yes, another ex-matrimonial motor — though this one’s earned a place in our history books. “FSD800” marks a milestone: eight hundred cars through our gates, each with its own story — some ending in glory, others in glorious dismantling. This one, though? We’re determined it’ll be one of the former.
From a distance, it looks every bit the dignified Shadow II: elegant proportions, chrome that still flashes in the sunshine, and body lines as straight as Crewe intended. Get a bit closer, and you’ll spot the evidence of past cosmetic enthusiasm — a touch of filler here and there in the arches, neatly shaped and finished with the sort of care you’d expect from a wedding car craftsman. It’s clearly been kept looking its best for the big days, and while it’s not concours-perfect, the panels themselves are impressively straight and solid — there’s plenty of promise beneath the paint.
Open the door, and things get a little more honest. The blue leather interior — once proudly luxurious — is now cracked and worn, with that patina of long service that tells its own story. The woodwork still catches the light; the carpets have seen better days; and the seats are weathered but welcoming. It’s far from pristine, but it’s one of the more characterful cabins we’ve seen in a while — the kind that could be, and should be, rescued.
We haven’t coaxed the engine into life yet, so the full mechanical story is still waiting to be told. What we do know is that it won’t currently select gears — so before this one can glide back onto the road, we’ll be diving into the gearbox mystery to see what’s holding it back.
Unlike many that come to us in white ribbons and weary states, this Shadow II isn’t destined for dismantling. Quite the opposite — we’re determined to get it properly roadworthy again. It’s got too much potential, and frankly, it deserves another chance to stretch its legs after a lifetime of slow, ceremonial crawls.
So, FSD800 will soon head into inspection, where we’ll start ticking through its list of niggles — big and small — on its way back to grace. Once it’s shifting smoothly and running as it should, it’ll be offered for sale — ready to start the next chapter of its long and winding story.
For now, though, we’re just taking a moment to appreciate the milestone: eight hundred cars through the yard, and fittingly, this one’s the kind we can save. Keep an eye on our sales page, because once this Shadow II finds its gears again, it won’t hang around for long.
Here’s to number 800 — the wedding car that’s finally getting a honeymoon of its own.
