The Bentley & Rolls-Royce hydraulic system (notably on Silver Shadow/Spirit models) is a sophisticated, high-pressure, central system designed for combined braking and self-leveling suspension. It uses engine-driven pumps, accumulators (spheres) to store pressure, operate brake systems and rear suspension ride height. These high-pressure circuits utilise RR363 or LHM fluids, which need to be changed every two years.

RR363 fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air over time. This reduces its boiling point, compromises braking performance, and can lead to internal corrosion. Regular flushing is essential to protect rubber components and maintain safe, reliable operation in classic Rolls-Royce and Bentley vehicles.
For SY-series models (1965–1980), including the Bentley T-Series and Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, RR363 is used. A full system flush, bleed, and refill typically require around 5 litres of fluid.

LHM on the other hand, is a mineral-based hydraulic fluid that is naturally resistant to water. Maintaining clean fluid is especially important for vehicles that are infrequently used or only driven short distances. Fresh LHM is bright green in colour; if it appears brown or yellow, this indicates contamination or oxidation and the need for replacement.
For SZ-series models (1980–2003), excluding Arnage, Continental GT, GTC, and Flying Spur, such as the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and related Bentley models, LHM mineral fluid is used. A complete system service in these vehicles generally requires approximately 8 litres of fluid.
