Bentley Brooklands R Mulliner - FSD 792

Chassis:  CH66835

£14,000

Fresh off the operating table — and no longer announcing its arrival with a smoke screen worthy of a Cold War destroyer — this Bentley Brooklands R Mulliner, number 39 of just 100 UK-spec cars, is ready for its next chapter.

When it first arrived, it was dramatic. Head gaskets past their prime, cooling system struggling, and an aroma that suggested something expensive was happening internally. Fast forward six months, and the story reads very differently.

The Important Bit — What We’ve Done

This isn’t a case of crossing fingers and hoping for the best. The big jobs have been handled properly:

  • Head gaskets replaced professionally
  • Cylinder heads skimmed
  • New radiator and thermostat fitted
  • Two con rods replaced
  • Full MOT completed
  • 200–300 miles of road testing carried out

The smoke clouds have cleared. The temperature sits where it should. It now starts, runs, and drives as a Mulliner ought to.

Why the Mulliner Matters

The Brooklands R Mulliner wasn’t just a trim package — it was Bentley flexing its coachbuilt muscles before the Volkswagen era truly reshaped the brand.

UK production was limited to 100 cars, each featuring:

  • Mulliner-specific interior detailing
  • Embroidered Bentley crests
  • Polished alloy and brightwork enhancements
  • The distinctive red starter button
  • Tweaked suspension and turbocharged 6.75-litre V8 performance

It represents the final flourish of Crewe’s traditional, hand-finished turbo saloons — old-school Bentley muscle in a discreet, upright suit.

Condition — The Honest Overview

Finished in Sherwood Green with magnolia leather, it still has that wonderfully imposing stance these cars do so well. The cosmetics present well overall, but — as with most cars of this era — there are areas that would benefit from improvement.

To be clear: this is still very much a rolling restoration.

The heavy mechanical expenditure has been taken care of, but minor jobs and cosmetic fettling remain for its next custodian. Nothing alarming, nothing unexpected — just the usual tidying that comes with rare, hand-built Bentleys approaching three decades of age.

Here’s the transparent list of what still requires attention:

  • Some areas require relacquering and/or paintwork attention (including the rear bumper, passenger mirror, boot lid and bonnet).
  • Passenger seat requires a replacement ECU
  • One hubcap is mismatched
  • Gearbox due an oil and filter service
  • Knock sensors likely require replacement

The Opportunity

Most limited-run Mulliners don’t appear at project money.

With the expensive engine work completed and proper road miles covered post-repair, this is now an honest, usable example that can be improved gradually while being enjoyed.

Offered as an ongoing project at £14,000

For a one-of-100 UK Mulliner with the right mechanical foundations now in place, that represents significant value — and a rare opportunity to own one of the last truly old-guard turbo Bentleys without stretching into concours pricing.

If you like your Bentleys with presence, provenance, and just the right amount of hands-on involvement, this could be the one.

PLUS: As the new owner of a Flying Spares Rolling Restoration, you’ll enjoy exclusive preferential pricing on all the parts you need to complete your project.
