GAZ — 2002 Bentley Arnage Red Label

Some cars arrive at Flying Spares to be dismantled. Others arrive to be sold.

And then there are the ones that stick around for a while.

This is GAZ, our 2002 Bentley Arnage Red Label, affectionately named after its private registration, GAZ 767, which is included with the car.

For quite some time, GAZ has had a rather different job. Rather than sitting on the sales page, it became one of our working cars — a test bed for developing and validating parts for the Arnage platform.

That meant it was fitted with components, driven, tested, removed and tested again. Among the parts we've used it to develop and validate are items such as boot power latches, window regulators, brake light switches, pad wear sensors, door card clips and an aftermarket aerial. Some of those components have since become available to customers, and the examples fitted to GAZ will remain with the car.

It has proved its worth many times over.

The car has also been enjoyed by members of the team, rather than simply being treated as a workshop tool. It even joined us at the RREC Annual Rally at Kelmarsh Hall, where it attracted plenty of interest from visitors — although, despite the attention, nobody quite managed to convince GAZ to leave with them.

Now, however, its work here is done.

We no longer need a dedicated Arnage for parts testing, and after spending so long helping us develop components to keep other cars on the road, it feels only right that GAZ should get back to doing what an Arnage does best.

Being driven.

And this isn't a Rolling Restoration.

This is a genuine, usable Bentley that's ready to get back on the road.

Finished in a handsome dark navy, the paintwork presents beautifully, while the cream leather interior remains soft, supple and remarkably inviting. The car is fundamentally a good working example, with 76,000 miles, a recent service, refurbished six-spoke alloy wheels and new tyres.

It also has an MOT through to March 2027, so there's no waiting around for someone to turn it into a car before enjoying it.

Under the bonnet sits Bentley's 6.75-litre V8, reintroduced to the Arnage Red Label in 1999 and providing the sort of effortless torque that makes moving a rather substantial Bentley around feel remarkably easy.

After all the time we've spent using this car, we know it well.

We've driven it. We've worked on it. We've tested parts on it. We've taken it to events. And we've watched it prove that the Arnage is still every bit the capable, comfortable Bentley it was designed to be.

Now we'd like to see somebody else enjoy it.
