Bentley Arnage - FSD 786

Chassis:  CH01226

Fresh off the trailer and looking far more dignified than its electrical system deserves — a 1999 Bentley Arnage, in deep navy blue with cream leather interior, and carrying itself with all the presence you'd expect from a car that cost more than a house when new.

This one came to us as many Arnage’s do: running fine, looking gorgeous, and riddled with fault codes. The previous owner had already done the sensible thing and taken it to a Bentley specialist. They, in turn, did the even more sensible thing and quoted something eye-watering to put it right. So, here it is — with a strong engine, a smooth gearbox, and just enough electronics on the fritz to make your OBD reader sweat.

Inside, it's classic late-90s Bentley: all burr walnut, analogue dials, and surprisingly few cup holders. The cream leather seats are still soft and inviting, with just enough wear to suggest stories but not regrets. It’s the kind of cabin that makes you want to drive with gloves on — or at least clean your shoes before getting in.

Rear passengers are treated to a pair of ‘Necvox’ TV monitors neatly fitted into the headrests — the height of cutting-edge in-car entertainment back when “portable DVD player” meant carrying a small suitcase. Whether they still work is anyone’s guess, but just knowing they’re there adds a certain period-correct charm. Possibly even a few extra fault codes.

We haven’t quite decided its fate yet. On the face of it, it’s a good ‘running breaker’. But we’ll hold off until we’ve had a proper look underneath. If it holds up under inspection, it might just be too nice to part out. If not, well — there's an Arnage or two out there that wouldn’t mind borrowing a few bits.

Watch this space.
