Few things define the Bentley driving experience quite like its advanced air suspension. Engineered to deliver that signature blend of effortless comfort and refined handling. But even the most sophisticated systems develop faults over time. When your Bentley's air suspension begins to fail, the signs are hard to ignore: uneven ride height, dashboard warning lights, knocking or a noticeably harsher drive than you're used to.

Causes range from failing compressors to control systems needing recalibration, but the most common issue we encountered for the Bentley Continental GT & Flying Spur is air leaking from the damper. It's worth noting that some pressure loss is normal. A vehicle with air suspension will typically drop a few centimetres overnight.

However, seals will gradually dry out, and connections lose their airtight integrity as the system ages. This forces the compressor to work harder to keep the vehicle level, accelerating wear. Most air suspension components have an average lifespan of 6–10 years before replacement becomes necessary.

The air bellows are particularly vulnerable. As the rubber ages, it loses flexibility and dries out. When the car sits fully on the ground, the rubber can fold into an unusual position. and may not return to its correct form, increasing the risk of tearing. Inflating a bellow while it's misaligned can also cause the crimping ring to detach, turning a manageable leak into a more serious repair.

If you've replaced a Bentley air suspension strut before, you'll know it doesn't come cheap. Currently retailing at £2,339.99 + VAT per side from a UK Bentley dealer.

At Flying Spares, we offer two alternatives that do not compromise on build quality, both backed by an extended 3-year warranty.

New Aftermarket Modified. Built around an upgraded elongated piston and a heavy-duty ContiTech air bladder, this unit delivers exceptional ride quality, greater stability, and reliable air leak prevention. An optimised crimp design reduces friction for smoother operation and improved damping performance.

Reconditioned. Each unit is rigorously tested, cleaned, and repainted before being rebuilt with a new heavy-duty Continental ContiTech air spring bladder, along with a new air valve, mount, terminal, connector valve, and dust cover.
