[COVID-19] Latest information

-------------------------------------------- 18/05/2020 14:00pm --------------------------------------------
We are Open!
The UK is currently trying to move slowly and safely out of lockdown.
In March the UK Government introduced a Job Retention Scheme which allows companies to “furlough” staff who are not working. The Government then covers 80% of their wages (up to a limit).
Since March 25th we have operated with a skeleton staff and currently still have over half of our workforce furloughed.
In the last few weeks we have tried to gradually increase our staff numbers whilst introducing safe social distancing measures.
This week we have turned a limited number of our phone lines back on and have five of the sales team in the offices.
We will attempt to ship all orders on the day we receive them but please bear with us should there be a slight delay as we are trying to balance customer demand with safe working and fewer staff..
We hope, wherever in the world you are, that you and your loved ones are safe and well and we look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
In the meantime thank you for your loyalty and patience.
Ben and Lucy Handford

Latest update from our Directors Ben and Lucy Handford:
Flying Spares continues to operate with a skeleton staff, taking orders by email and shipping parts on a daily basis.
This week (commencing 11th May) sees a gradual increase in our staff numbers. Our aim is to build up our staffing levels slowly and safely, to enable us to cope with customer demand whilst adhering to the strictest social distancing guidelines.
From Monday 18th May, we plan to expand our sales team and switch our phones back on. We will continue to gradually increase the number of employees on site as we introduce safe working practices.
Please bear with us as we try to offer you the best possible service whilst coping with the current restrictions.
Thank you for your loyalty and patience.
Ben and Lucy Handford

UPDATE
We are still operating a skeleton staff who are handling email enquiries and are currently shipping orders out with UPS once a week.
Whilst the Government advice is to stay at home, businesses such as ours are not restricted from opening as long as we can maintain safe social distancing.
As our premises consists of four different buildings we have been able to keep our skeleton crew well apart from one another whilst they respond to customer enquiries and ship out parcels at the end of each week.
We are expecting our first delivery from Bentley Motors this week. So please do stay in touch with us via email, and if we have the parts you require we can ship them to you.

Here’s what you need to know:
• We will not be taking telephone calls however please email sales@flyingspares.co.uk and someone will reply to you in due course.
• Depending on business levels, we will attempt to arrange a collection by UPS (each Friday) for any orders of parts that we have in stock that have been placed over the week.
• Our returns policy will be frozen on all orders from 23rd February 2020 onwards and you have the right to return your item as per our Terms and Conditions when we fully reopen.

We trust that you and your families are remaining safe and well.

Latest update from our Directors Ben and Lucy Handford:
In these troubled times we hope that you, your families and your staff remain healthy and well.
On Monday 23rd March the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, issued a statement urging the UK population to stay at home in order to try to reduce the number of people succumbing to the COVID-19 virus so as not to overwhelm our National Health Service.
Whilst he did not implicitly instruct “non-essential” mail order businesses such as Flying Spares to cease trading we felt that we could not reconcile keeping the business open with keeping our staff and customers safe.
We therefore took the very difficult decision to close the doors from Wednesday 25th March. We have over 50 staff and there was no way we could ensure their safety whilst at work.
We did allow a few staff to continue to work in order to oversee an organised shutting down of the business - a few deliveries have still been received this week and we did manage to ship a few outstanding orders as our courier partners were still working.
Towards the end of the week more and more businesses in the UK and around the world have paused trading, confirming to us that our decision to close was the correct one.
For the week commencing 30th March we will still have a skeleton staff onsite and working from home who will respond to emails sent to sales@flyingspares.co.uk. Please do contact them should you need to.
These are historic times that we are living through. Whilst closing the business for the first time in 25 years has been the hardest decision we have ever had to make, the support and understanding we have received from staff and customers alike has been quite overwhelming at times.
We trust that you agree we have done the right thing and look forward to helping you again in the very near future.

DELIVERY UPDATE
UPS
Governments of most European countries have implemented various containment measures in an attempt to stop the spread of the Novel Corona Virus. Limitations do not apply to the movement of goods and UPS continues to operate a regular service.

We are currently operating Monday through Friday and serving our customers as usual. Despite current challenges, we continue to service our customers as best we can. Current circumstances may cause some delays in transit. For example, new border controls, reduced air freight capacity in the market, and local protective regulations and quarantine measures may all impact service.

Within countries, some parcel deliveries may not be possible due to the closure of shops or businesses, or restrictions in various postcodes, in which case parcels will be returned to sender. Undeliverable parcels due to this emergency carry either of the below tracking statuses:
CS — Emergency
DH - NO UPS CNTRL

As per government announcements, most shops have been ordered to close until further notice. Please note that as a result shipments to UPS Access Point locations could be impacted.

For parcels requiring a signature, our drivers can temporarily do this on behalf of the customer to avoid unnecessary contact via hand-held devices. We kindly request customers to open the door, accept the parcel and state their name for security purposes. Parcels that are not signed for will be marked with code CV19 plus 11 digits of the consignee's name as proof of delivery.

Due to the unprecedented nature of the current situation, the waiting times for our customer service desk may be longer than usual. For the latest status of your shipments we encourage you to use shipment tracking on ups.com.

RREC ANNUAL RALLY 2020 - CANCELLED
It's with deepest regret to inform you that the RREC have made the announcement that the 2020 Annual Rally which was due to be held at Burghley House has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

RREC's official announcement:
We are in unprecedented times and this requires quite exceptional decisions to be made. To this end the Board have taken the reluctant decision to cancel the Annual Rally. Cancelling now provides certainty to you all, limits our financial exposure to the event below £1,000, and allows us to remain compliant with the social distancing obligations that are becoming more stringent.
We will be refunding all the 2020 Annual Rally payment that we have received.
- If you paid for your tickets via a credit or debit card you do not need to contact us as we will refund your payment directly to the card that you used to make the payment.
- If you paid by cheque or direct bank transfer please can you email accounts@rrec.org.uk  with your bank account name, sort code and account number quoting reference :"Annual Rally refund" and we will make a refund.

We will continue to keep you up to date with any further developments.

DELIVERY UPDATE
ROYAL MAIL
Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm
We will no longer guarantee deliveries by 1pm the next working day for items posted from Thursday 19 March 2020 onwards. As a result, we will not consider a claim for delay for items posted using the Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm service from that date. In addition we will not during this period offer our Consequential Loss service and we will not accept any related claims.
Our Special Delivery Guaranteed by yarn service remains unchanged.

All Signature services
We've put in place a temporary procedure for those services where we would normally capture a recipient's signature on delivery in the UK. For items delivered on or after Saturday 14th March 2020, our postmen and women will not request a signature but will capture the recipient's name and will ensure they take in the item. You can still check that we have obtained confirmation of delivery and who we delivered to by tracking your parcel at www.royalmail.com/track-your-item (where you may see a special code, ‘XP1’ instead of signature). As a result, we will not consider refunds or compensation requests for not capturing a signature for items delivered on or after Saturday 14 March 2020 and until further notice.

We will continue to keep you up to date with any further developments.
